The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Bill has been granted royal assent and will now become an Act of Parliament, reports The Herald newspaper.
The 2014 Commonwealth Games Act puts in place measures to help protect the Games from ticket touts and unauthorized outdoor trading within the vicinity of the Games’ venues. It also provides powers to address such matters as the purchase of land and transportation.
Sheriff Courts will be able to issue fines of up to 20,000 pounds for those engaging in unauthorized marketing, and there will be an unlimited fine at the High Court. Ticket touts could face penalties of 5,000 pounds.
The legislation should be in place by 2010.
Sport Minister Stewart Maxwell said the legislation would ensure the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games runs as smoothly as possible.
