SAFA Holds Technical Workshop to Map 2010 Legacy
 08/08/2008

The South African Football Association (SAFA) will hold a two day Technical Workshop this Saturday and Sunday 9-10 August 2008 at the Riverside Hotel and Conference Centre in Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng.

This will be a gathering of the country's football Coaches and Administrators who will convene to review and refine the Association's Development Strategy.

The workshop is one of other projects that SAFA President, Dr Molefi Oliphant and the National Executive Committee, have initiated as part of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Football Legacy.

Dr Oliphant says an audit conducted on the Associations' structures and programmes has necessitated an urgent need for repositioning the Development Strategy.

“SAFA's 2010 Football legacy programme is informed primarily by challenges facing our Regions and our Local Football Associations. So, as part of our interventions we have partnered with Theta to capacitate our members in Administration and Coaching throughout SAFA's 52 Regions. This Technical Workshop is a step towards developing a strategy that will ensure success for all our National Teams in Continental and World Championships. This process will involve Government, Sponsors and other relevant stakeholders as it unfolds,” says Oliphant.

SAFA's Technical Committee Chairperson, Sturu Pasiya, says he is optimistic that a roadmap with clear deliverables will be outlined at the end of the two day workshop. “We are starting a process that will ignite a national discourse on development through structured forums. A process that will get the Coaches into conversation on coaching matters, and a process that will define the essence of being selected to represent South Africa in any of our National Teams,” explains Pasiya.

World governing body, FIFA, has also welcomed the Technical Workshop initiative by SAFA. FIFA Technical Director, Jean Michel Benezet, has assigned Development Officer, Ashford Mamelodi and Coaching Instructor, Ben Koufie to be part of this workshop. FIFA has further committed to support SAFA to ensure that programmes emanating from this initiative are implemented within the agreed time frames.
