It's very easy to attend Premier Soccer League (PSL) matches and Bafana Bafana matches. Tickets are readily available at Computicket or at selected retailers, you pay for the ticket(s) and once at the stadium you can sit where you like.
Sitting where you want at a match is nothing out of the ordinary but this disorganised practice has to stop if the 2010 World Cup is to be a success and Legal Manager Leslie Sedibe believes the Organising Committee has the ability to change the mindset of South African fans, starting with the 2009 Confederations Cup.
"The Confederations Cup will be used as test for the World Cup," Sedibe told reporters at Safa house on Thursday. "There will be seat numbers and tickets will have the designated seat numbers. The plans are there but it still has to be put in to practice.
"We obviously have to work with the PSL as well to implement this plan. I have no doubt that it will work," said Sedibe.
"There will also be Bafana games where we will introduce this," he added but could not divulge more as certain PSL games and international matches still have to be targeted for this ticketing system.
Bafana played at the 1997 Confederations Cup, lost two matches and drew one game in the eight nation tournament which has been running since 1992.
Brazil won it in 1997 beating Australia 6-0 and in Germany 2005 hammered Argentina 4-1.
A precursor to the World Cup, South Africans will see the likes of World Champs Italy, European Champs Spain, South American champs Brazil and African champs Egypt in June next year in Bloemfontein, Rustenburg, Pretoria and Johannesburg.
"I think the Confederations Cup will be a success on the field and off it, and we'll show people that as a host nation we are ready for the World Cup," Sedibe concluded.
