ABAE first to meet Code compliance 17/09/2008 |

The Amateur Boxing Association of England has become the first governing body in the UK to publish World Anti-Doping Code compliant rules for 2009. This follows UK Sport’s publication, in July, of the UK Anti-Doping Rules which have been developed to make the transition to the new Code as simple as possible for NGBs.
The revised Code comes into operation from 1 January 2009 by which time all NGBs on UK Sport’s anti-doping testing programme will be expected to either have Code compliant rules in place, or at the very least a timetable agreed with UK Sport for doing so.
Andy Parkinson, Acting Director of Drug-Free Sport at UK Sport, said: “By finalising their 2009 rules well in advance of 1 January 2009, the ABAE has given themselves a substantial amount of time to inform and educate their members to ensure everyone is aware of their responsibilities under the revised Code.”
The Rules published by UK Sport reflect all the principles of the revised Code and best practice generally in anti-doping. They also embed the use of the National Anti-Doping Panel for the handling of anti-doping rule violations, taking away this responsibility from NGBs.
