ESPN and the MLB Network will televise next year's World Baseball Classic, the second international tournament run by Major League Baseball and its players union.
Walt Disney Co.'s ESPN will carry the championship, semifinals and 23 games on its English and Spanish networks, according to a statement. The MLB Network, which begins broadcasting on Jan. 1, will show 16 games and a daily highlight program.
Financial terms of the agreement weren't disclosed.
The World Baseball Classic begins March 5 with 16 national teams featuring major-league players. First-round play will take place in Tokyo, Toronto, Mexico City and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles will host the semifinals and final on March 21-23.
Japan won the inaugural event in 2006 behind the pitching of tournament Most Valuable Player Daisuke Matsuzaka, who later signed with the Boston Red Sox.
