Arlen Kantarian resigned as chief executive officer of professional tennis for the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) on Thursday after leading the organization through nine-years of growth.
"We have now accomplished all that we set out to do at the USTA, and I attribute that to one of the finest staffs in the business," said Kantarian in a statement. "The best time to move on is when the business is at an all-time high and a solid foundation has been built for the future.
"I have no doubt the U.S. Open, U.S. Open Series and the sport of tennis will continue to prosper and grow."
During Kantarian's tenure the USTA enjoyed record growth with U.S. Open revenues increasing over 80 percent.
This year's U.S. Open was the most successful since tennis turned professional in 1968, breaking all previous records for revenues and attendance.
Kantarian also introduced innovations such as instant replay and the challenge format at the U.S. Open.
He also moved the women's final to Saturday night and secured television deals to boost the events profile and income.
Kantarian will continue with the USTA through the end of the year.
