KNYSNA Tourism has urged accommodation establishments to sign up with Match, the company mandated by Fifa to deal with accommodation for the 2010 soccer World Cup.
Knysna Tourism head Shaun van Eck said the Garden Route had been provisionally designated as a so-called matchville area, provided all the establishments on Match‘s books could provide the number of rooms required.
“This is a satellite area that has been designated for a tour operator programme that will sell five-day packages, including a match ticket.”
He said the concept was dependent on enough accommodation being contracted in the area.
“We need the support of the communities and establishments to make this work. If Match cannot reach targets in terms of rooms required, then the area will not be marketed as a matchville area. Their focus will shift to our competitors who can deliver on room numbers and that will, of course, be negative for Knysna,” he said.
