SA Police Services Director Aaron Harry who addressed delegates at the Sports Security Summit in London yesterday, said he was confident that visiting fans won’t be targeted by criminals or terrorists in 2010.
However, Ben Groenewald, assistant commissioner for operational support services, expressed concern that resources will be stretched particularly if there are too many unofficial fan parks. Meanwhile, the SA government has saluted the country’s 2010 preparations.
Addressing the media after a two-day workshop with the 2010 departments in all nine host cities, provincial and local government minister Sicelo Shiceka said: ’The stadia are on schedule and they will finish on time. We believe we are on track.’
