Pakistan Cricket Board sets no floor price for TV rights 17/11/2008 |

While there is uncertainty over cricket tours to Pakistan over security issues, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will open next week tender for the four-year broadcast rights beginning 2009.
Information available with Indiantelevision.com indicates that the PCB is setting no floor price. A decision on the winner is expected at the end of the month.
There are 10 tours in all during the period 2009-2013. Two of these will be by India, with the first being scheduled for January 2009. The rights will include a total of 26 Tests, 43 ODIs and eight 20-20 games.
Sources say Ten Sports, the incumbent to the PCB cricket telecast rights, and ARY will bid separately because of differences that have cropped up between them.
Ten Sports held the rights from 2003-2008 with a bid of $42.5 million. India had toured twice during this period.
ESPN Star Sports MD RC Venkateish says that the company is examining different factors before it decides on its course of action.
Sony CEO Kunal Dasgupta has said that the broadcaster will not go for the rights due to the uncertain nature of the country.
The BCCI is said to be taking a decision on whether or not India will tour Pakistan next month once it reviews the security situation. To safeguard the interests of the broadcasters, payments will be made to the PCB only after the tour in question is completed.
The PCB is under financial stress. A couple of months back, the PCB had inked a $9 million deal with Dubai Sports City. According to the agreement, Pakistan is to play a tri-series next year involving the teams of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
Pakistan then plays four Twenty20 matches in the next two years. The PCB gets paid $3 million each for the three-year assignment.
