TCL Corporation becomes sponsor of Guangzhou Asian Games
 20/11/2008

TCL Corporation (SZSE: 000100) will sponsor the 16th Asian Games to be held in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou in 2010.

The Huizhou-based consumer electronics maker inked a sponsorship agreement with the Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (GAGOC), becoming the 13th partner of the upcoming event.

Under the partnership, the consumer electronics company will provide displays for TVs, light-emitting diode (LED) displays, safety monitors and mobile TVs during the Games.

The new sponsor is likely to spend more than CNY 80 million financing the event, predicted a TCL executive, although the exact size is still unknown.

TCL made the decision after a careful consideration, disclosed another executive for the Shenzhen-listed company company. The consumer electronics maker received another sponsorship invitation from the Organizing Committee for Shenzhen 26th Summer Universiade, aside from the GAGOC.

In addition, South Korea-based electronics titan Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has been selected to be an official partner of the Guangzhou Asian Games.
