2016 Bid Cities Attend EOC General Assembly In Istanbul 20/11/2008

Tuesday a delegation from Chicago 2016 traveled to Istanbul Turkey to present Chicago's bid at the European Olympic Committees (EOC) General Assembly taking place November 20 and 21 at the Hilton Exhibition Center in Istanbul Turkey.
Chicago's delegation included Honorary Chairman and Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, and Chairman and CEO Patrick G. Ryan, as well as members of the United States Olympic Committee, who will meet with leaders of sport and members of various National Olympic Committees from the region.
Ryan said, "the general assembly represents a unique opportunity for us to learn about the emerging issues that are important to European NOCs. We look forward to refining our bid plan to reflect insights learned during these meetings".
Tuesday representatives of Rio 2016 announced their delegation to the general assembly where they will be presenting Rio de Janeiro's bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
The delegation will be led by Carlos Nuzman, President of Rio 2016 and the Brazilian Olympic Committee. Nuzman will be joined by Sergio Cabral, Governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro and other officials.
Nuzman said at a press briefing, "we are very honoured and excited about going to the EOC General Assembly and believe we have a strong presentation for the European Olympic Council. We travel to Istanbul with a high-level delegation showcasing support from all levels of government and athletes for the Rio 2016 bid. Rio has a great story to tell and the Games represent an investment for our city and country".
Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), will be decorated with an honorary doctorate degree by Istanbul University on November 21 during the meeting.
There will also be presentations by representatives of Tokyo and Madrid to EOC officials on their 2016 Olympic bids.
