Just one week until ITU's Federation Forum kicks off in Madrid, Spain. The 2-day forum includes sessions on Marketing, Media & Television, Events and Sport Development. It will be followed by ITU's Gala on Friday night when founding ITU President Les McDonald and Vice-President Chiharu Igaya, also an IOC Member, will be honoured for their contributions to ITU triathlon. McDonald will retire at the end of this year while Igaya will step down as Vice-President.
ITU's 21st Congress and Elections takes place on Saturday November 29. ITU will become the only Olympic International Federation to have women at the top two leadership roles when Marisol Casado (ESP) and Loreen Barnett (CAN) run uncontested for President and Secretary General respectively.
Casado is currently ITU Treasurer and President of the European Triathlon Union. Barnett is ITU's current Executive Director and will continue to handle the day-to-day business of ITU in the restructured role of Secretary General.
The most heated battle will be for the Executive Board. Eleven prominent members of 11 different National Federations are running for seven coveted spots on ITU's Executive Board. Also to be elected are the seven committees that make up ITU Council. They include the Technical Committee, Medical Committee, Constitution Committee, Women's Committee, Credentials Committee, and Duathlon Committee.
