Cities bidding for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games are getting help from public relations consultants based in Britain, according to PR Week.
PR Week reports that UK-based Vero Communications is promoting Rio de Janeiro's bid, Chicago is using Hill & Knowlton, Madrid has the services of Bell Pottinger, and Tokyo's bid is being assisted by UK Olympic-bid veteran Jon Tibbs and the Weber Shandwick agency.
Vero Communications worked with Doha's 2016 bid before it was eliminated in June. PR Week reports agency founder Mike Lee was formerly director of communications and public affairs for London's 2012 bid.
The Hill & Knowlton team is reportedly led by its Chicago office under Patrick Sandusky who worked on the London 2012 bid for Hill & Knowlton out of the UK.
Tibbs said, "the bidding world has become very sophisticated. A large part of that has been driven by London-based agencies over the years. Every bid that has won has had a UK agency involved at some stage".
