Three Member Associations (MA) have declared their interest in hosting AFC Headquarters.
By the October 31, 2008 deadline, Qatar, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates had submitted letters of interest.
The three MAs have until the end of the year to submit detailed bids according to AFC requirements, which includes a formal relationship between AFC and the host government.
AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam has reiterated his belief that he would like to keep the AFC Headquarters at its current location in Malaysia.
However, it is important that there is a formal agreement between AFC and the host government that provides AFC with certain benefits recognising its role as a major sports governing body.
In this respect, AFC Vice-President Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah was requested by the AFC Executive Committee in Shanghai to initiate discussion of the issue between AFC and the Malaysian government.
Tengku Abdullah, a former vice president of the Football Association of Malaysia, will meet with relevant representatives from Malaysia and AFC.
He is expected to make a presentation to Bin Hammam on January 15, 2009.
