Reno Continues Winter Olympic Bid Plans 12/01/2009 |

Now that the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) has announced it won't bid for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games to focus on the Chicago 2016 bid, a news release from the Reno Tahoe Winter Games Coalition says it intends to continue a bid for a future Olympic Games.
Nevada Lt. Governor Brian Krolicki, chairman of the Reno coalition's board of directors said, "this news is certainly disappointing, but we must remain focused on why our efforts to secure the Olympic rings are so important. While our immediate goal has been securing the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, the long-term effort has always been about the journey that will serve to improve our region's tourism infrastructure and create world-class sporting venues. Our coalition's goal is to continue its concerted efforts to establish and enhance these tourism and recreational offerings, positioning our area to be even more competitive for the next possible Olympic opportunity - hosting the 2022 Olympic Winter Games".
Jon Killoran, the Reno coalition's chief executive officer added, "we have understood and respected all along the (Olympic committee's) focus on Chicago 2016 bid". While we are disappointed in the decision to forego a 2018 Winter Games bid, we remain committed to our vision and dream to have Reno/Tahoe become the next North American region selected to host an Olympic Winter Games. We will continue to work diligently on the steps necessary to achieve that vision. We also offer our encouragement and support to Chicago's 2016 bid efforts".
