USOC Adds Marketing Officer Amid Olympic Sponsorship Departures
 13/01/2009

The U.S. Olympic Committee, which is seeking corporate sponsorships after losing partners such as Home Depot Inc., General Motors Corp. and Eastman Kodak Co., hired Lisa Baird as its chief marketing officer.

Baird, 47, has spent 25 years in marketing, sales, licensing, brand development and consumer products with the National Football League, IBM Corp., General Motors and Procter & Gamble Co.

“Lisa recognizes the importance of delivering not only service and support, but innovative thinking and creative solutions to our family of corporate partners,” USOC Chief Executive Officer Jim Scherr said in a statement.

The USOC has signed 17 sponsors through the 2012 Olympics in London, according to the New York Times, yet has also lost some long-time partners.

Home Depot didn’t renew its 16-year accord, worth about $4 million to $5 million a year, while General Motors ended a 24- year partnership worth about $7.5 million annually. Kodak had been an Olympic sponsor since 1896.

Kellogg Co. and Johnson & Johnson haven’t said whether they’ll renew their sponsorships with the USOC. Johnson & Johnson ended its run as a worldwide Olympic sponsor.
