The upcoming Handball World Cup in Croatia has sparked keen interest among international broadcasters.
The IHF's media partner, the sports rights marketer SPORTFIVE, has already sold the broadcasting rights to 72 TV channels in the lead-up to the tournament. ESPN will become the first US channel ever to cover the competition for the international handball crown.
The broadcasters will be present on the ground in Croatia, providing via TV, Radio and Internet a full range of services to handball fans across the world. They will use the Worldfeed service provided by SPORTFIVE for the live coverage of the matches or to present highlights from the tournament to their viewers. The TV channels will be joined by 61 international radio stations, broadcasting from the seven venues in Osijek, Split, Varaždin, Porec, Zagreb, Zadar and Pula.
In all, the TV and radio stations will deliver images and impressions from this year's handball world championship to more than 140 countries, confirms Lars Heidenreich, SPORTFIVE's Executive Vice President International TV. "For broadcasters, the Handball World Cup provides very compelling and exiting content. We expect a great event in Croatia with more last minute booking requests for footage and news access. The number of broadcasters already on board is a very positive sign."
