Justin King, chief executive of J. Sainsbury, was confirmed as the Mayor of London's new appointment to the board of the 2012 Olympic Games organising committee Locog on Friday.
King replaces David Ross, the co-founder of mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse, who resigned following his breach of share disclosure rules.
The Sainsbury's chief joins Locog, which is responsible for staging the Games, at a time when it seeks to raise the remaining third of its 650 million pound domestic sponsorship target.
Mayor Boris Johnson also announced the appointment of David Gregson, the part-time chairman of private equity group Phoenix Equity Partners, as chairman of his Legacy Board of Advisers -- again replacing Ross.
Gregson will hold the role until the proposed new Legacy Special Purpose Vehicle is created, and will advise on all aspects of post-Games.
"These two men have distinguished careers and bring a wealth of experience," Johnson said in a statement.
