Stadiums to be the main EURO 2012 ground
 20/01/2009

UEFA president Michel Platini supposes the readiness of capital stadiums of both hosts of EURO 2012 final to be the main ground of European championship holding in Ukraine and Poland. Michel Platini visited an opening ceremony of the Community of Independent States (CIS) Cup 2009 in Moscow where he mentioned: “We gave Ukraine and Poland the right to hold EURO 2012. Later on we confirmed this decision several times. Now we have to tell once again that nothing has changed”.

Keys to EURO are Kyiv and Warsaw
“Of course, holding the tournament of such class is a kind of a challenge both for the countries-organizers and for UEFA, − Michel Platini added. − That’s why it is very important for Ukraine and Poland to build the main EURO 2012 stadiums in time. So, Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU) president Grigoriy Surkis and Poland Football Union (PFU) head Grzegorz Lato know about it. If these stadiums are put into operation betimes, there won’t be any problems connected with tournament holding in Ukraine and Poland. That is UEFA Executive Committee decision”.

Chance for Ukraine and Poland
While answering the questions of Russian journalists Michel Platini also refuted an assumption of mass-media about so called ‘plan B’ existence. “UEFA doesn’t have any other plans except holding of EURO 2012 in Ukraine and Poland − he ascertained. − I suppose that it is necessary to hold big tournaments not only in the most strong football countries. European championship is a chance for Ukraine and Poland who got a great opportunity to develop their infrastructure”.
