The SA Police Services is planning the next series of 2010 security exercices which will see the police joining the defence force and other security agencies to test the country’s preparations for this year’s Confederations Cup and 2010 World Cup.
Following last year’s exercises in Bloemfontein, Polokwane, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, similair exercises will be held in Gauteng and the North West Province between 15 and 21 March.
Operation ’Shield’ is focused on implementing the FIFA World Cup national safety and security plan and ensuring that all the reevant security agencies are working in union to tackle any air or land threats, particularly near stadiums in the host cities.
The SAPS has budgeted R1.3 billion to safeguard both tournaments.
