Four French Cities Submit Applications For France 2018 Winter Games Bid
 23/01/2009

Four French cities, Grenoble, Pelvoux, Annecy and Nice, formally submitted their applications Wednesday to the National Olympic Committee and French sports (CNOSF) for consideration as France's candidate for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. The cities were selected as candidates by the CNOSF on October 22.

During the presentation Nice unveiled its project in three dimensions, Grenoble talked about the experience of Annecy 1968 and Albertville hosting the 1992 Games.

Pelvoux, a small town in the Hautes-Alpes, reportedly presented a very ambitious bid which would use some facilities of the Turin 2006 Games.

Michel Vial, chairman of the Evaluation Commission of the CNOSF, expressed his satisfaction about the qualifications of the four cities.

The French National Olympic committee will nominate thier candidate March 19 and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will select the 2018 Winter Games host city in 2011 at a meeting in Durban.

France's last Olympic candidacy was Paris' bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
