Great Britain Basketball retain sports specialists in search for new Women’s Head Coach
 20/02/2009

Sports Recruitment International has been retained by British Performance Basketball (BPB) to lead a global search to find a new Head Coach for their senior women’s team with the London 2012 Olympics just 41 months away.

British Basketball was one of the main beneficiaries when UK Sport announced its allocation of funds in preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games. The funding of £8.7m over the next 4 years represents an increase on previous levels, and provides a strong platform for the Great Britain teams in preparation for the European and World competitions in forthcoming years.

Chris Spice, Performance Director for British Performance Basketball, believes the future is bright for the sport in the UK. ‘For the first time in the history of basketball, we have the funding to match the ambitions we have for the GB programme and we are determined to recruit a coach with the calibre to embrace this vision’, he said.

‘We are fully committed to achieving the targets we have been set by our funding partners and also by FIBA for Olympic qualification. The process we are going through to ensure we engage the best possible candidate emphasises this commitment and also to the long term growth of the sport’.

Engaging a specific sports executive search company hasn’t previously been the norm in the high performance sector but Leigh Hine, Head of the Elite Performance & Participation Division at Sports Recruitment International has witnessed a dramatic shift in organisation’s attitudes to his company over the past 4 years.

Leigh commented, ‘We are delighted to be selected by British Performance Basketball to assist them in this search and as many organisations are finding, talent acquisition is becoming a more critical part of their long term strategy.

We will be working with BPB to ensure we find the best person globally for this position and in turn, help British Basketball flourish in 2012 and beyond’.

British Performance Basketball and Sports Recruitment International are seeking high calibre candidates for this position. The successful candidate will be an inspirational leader with a proven track record in a world class basketball environment and be acknowledged by players and coaches as having expert knowledge and credibility.
