Doha wins right to host 2009 FINA Diving World Series 09/03/2009

The Qatar Swimming Association and Qatar Olympic Committee announced that Doha has won the rights to host the FINA Diving World Series 2009 at the Hamad Aquatic Centre on March 21 and 22.
This prestigious competition, hosted for the first time in the Middle East will feature the top male and female divers of the world competing in individual and team events from the 3-meter springboard and 10-meter platform.
"We are extremely proud to host this elite event in Doha," says Khaleel Al Jabir, President of the Qatar Swimming Association, "Not only is this the first time FINA has awarded the Diving World Series to a country in the Middle East, but Doha gets to welcome the best competitive divers in the world to our city."
FINA Technical Delegates of the event are currently in Doha to inspect the progress for the competition.
Melanle Beck, FINA Diving World Series Event Director, was impressed with the plans and work she has seen here.
"With your work and preparations, you are raising the event level and you are creating a new standard for FINA's competitions. We feel excited and looking forward to attend and witness this event."
Bashar Al Saffar, a FINA Technical Delegate to the event, was pleased with the technical preparations by the Qatar Swimming Association.
"We have toured the venue and seen all the work going into this event. I think all the plans are coming along very well.”
