Scotland will be receiving additional money to fund the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games through a National Lottery scratch card that, following a request from the Scottish Government, received immediate support.
Scotland's Minister for Public Health and Sport, Shona Robison, announced Sunday that she has written to Andy Burnham, Britain's Secretary of State for Culture, Sport and Media, to request the return of 150 million pounds of lottery funding diverted away from Scotland to pay for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Robison said, "dedicated lottery games have already secured serious sums of funding for the London Olympics. I want to ensure Scotland gets its fair share. Specialist games such as scratch cards are one way of raising money without taking cash from the public purse".
The National Lottery is expected to raise 750 million pounds for the London 2012 Games through lottery tickets, scratch cards and Internet Games. Almost 400 million pounds has already been collected, around one fifth of the 750-million-pound total that would otherwise have been dedicated to projects in Scotland, reports the Herald.
