UEFA today announced that it has completed the sales process in Cyprus for the media rights relating to the 2009-12 UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.

Live and highlights
For the UEFA Champions League, Sigma has won a major package of rights which means that it will show the Tuesday first-choice live match on Sigma Sports 1 and the Wednesday first-choice live match on free-to-air channel Sigma TV. Sigma TV will also show highlights on both nights. "In what has proved to be a particularly competitive market, UEFA received a number of offers for the various packages of rights available," the European body said.

Significant package
Cyta has been awarded the rights to broadcast all the remaining UEFA Champions League live matches as well as highlights from the competition on both nights and delayed matches. In addition, Cyta has won a significant package in the UEFA Europa League sales process which includes all live matches (other than the first-choice match), highlights and delayed matches. Cyta will exploit these rights via its IPTV service on its Cytavision sports channels. Public broadcaster CYBC has been awarded the first-choice UEFA Europa League live match in each match week and it will show these matches, as well as highlights, on free-to-air channel CYBC2.

New rights deals
"UEFA is delighted to confirm these new rights deals in Cyprus," said UEFA. "UEFA is renewing its successful partnerships with Sigma and CYBC while welcoming a new partner in the form of Cyta. These deals will deliver great exposure for both competitions in Cyprus.

Contribution and commitment
"At the same time, UEFA wishes to thank Lumiere, for its contribution and commitment to the UEFA Cup in Cyprus during the current rights term. Although Lumiere will not be UEFA's Europa League broadcast partner in Cyprus next season, they have been a highly valued partner of UEFA and have done a great job of broadcasting the UEFA Cup."
