COMPANIES with business links to the Eastern Cape are already shelling out millions of rands for their executives and clients to enjoy the “champagne” lifestyle the 2010 soccer World Cup will bring to Nelson Mandela Bay.
And some of them may even be living on luxury vessels in Algoa Bay during the event, it emerged yesterday at a presentation in Port Elizabeth on the hospitality packages and opportunities available.
Top packages for luxury suites at the city‘s new stadium would cost from $307200 (about R3-million) for 24 VIP guests at a series of matches – and five of the 10 available had already been sold, Match Hospitality regional manager Edgar Baron said. He added that “PetroSA and other people” involved in the Coega development project were among those who had booked the suites.
The price – which includes VIP entrance, catered cordon bleu meals, drinks, and mementos – works out at R125000 for each VIP for the eight matches involved, or about R15600 a head a match.
Meanwhile, local fans will be able to sit in ordinary seats for as little as R140, information issued previously by cup organisers shows. They will be able to eat and drink strictly sponsors-only products.
Swiss-based Match Hospitality is an international company selling a large line-up of packages for the world‘s second-biggest sporting event after the Olympic Games.
The rates range from a high of $1,5-million (R15-million) for the “Big Five Series” of important games and venues to $2010 (about R20000) for a single reserved place in a standard hospitality area.
That is for the opening match at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg on June 11 next year.
In between, are other shared or exclusive hospitality suites, some inside stadiums and others with reserved cup seats, but with hospitality provided in “tent villages” next to stadiums.
Baron said at a presentation organised by the PE Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Percci) and the Business Women‘s Association local branch, that he could not give full details yet of the various packages sold for the city stadium.
“However, we do know that of the 10 private suites available at the stadium, only five are left,” he said, adding later that “PetroSA and other people” involved in the Coega development project were among those who had booked the suites.
Of the top-priced “Big Five Series” package, Baron said the plan was originally to have a “Big Six Series” which included Port Elizabeth, but that was changed.
Match Hospitality also knew of one person planning to moor a boat in the city‘s harbour to accommodate guests.
