The 16th Asian Games (www.gz2010.cn/en), part of the worldwide Olympic movement and governed by the Olympic Council of Asia plans to recruit more than 200,000 volunteers to manage a myriad of key positions during the Games.

Clearly one of the successes of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing last August were the college-age Chinese volunteers who managed a multitude of key services including transportation, languages and media services. Organizers of The 16th Asian Games will be recruiting - starting in March 2010 - approximately 210,000 volunteers for Games’ time services.

During Games time some 60,000 volunteers will be posted at each of the 50 competition venues, the Asian Games Town and more than 70 hotels that will host journalists and visiting spectators from around the world.

Another 150,000 volunteers will be posted in subway stops and identified “service stations” to offer translation and directions for spectators and visitors to Guangzhou.

And like its Summer Olympic predecessor, GAGOC will recruit attractive young women (and men) to be “NBA-style” cheerleaders for major indoor stadium sports, including Basketball.

Games’ organizers will also form local “cheering volunteers” to encourage sportsmanship and cheering on athletes during all Games’ competition.

Nominations for international volunteers, as well as from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, will also be available. For additional information on how to become a volunteer during the 16th Asian Games, please review the GAGOC website at www.gz2010.cn (Chinese) or www.gz2010.cn/en (English).

The 16th Asian Games (www.gz2010.cn/en) is approved and governed by the Olympic Council of Asia and will be held in “Flower City” of Guangzhou from November 12 - 27, 2010. More than 14,000 athletes from 45 countries and regions will compete in 42 sports. More than 10,000 accredited and non-accredited worldwide media are anticipated to cover the Games with more than three million spectators expected to attend.
