Emirates named as global tour operator for 2010 World Cup
 27/03/2009

'Follow your team' travel packages will be available for the first time for next year’s World Cup in South Africa.

The option will be made available by the tour operating arm of Emirates, which has been named as global tour operator for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The new package will ensure supporters do not miss a moment of their team's action during the tournament and safeguard them should their team be unfortunate enough not to qualify, according to the company.

The World Cup offers are due to go on sale shortly and a further announcement will be made detailing World Cup packages, a statement said.

The tournament is set to kick off in Johannesburg on June 11, 2010 with the final being held a month later.

Two stadiums in Johannesburg are to stage matches together with a further eight around the country including Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.

Emirates' partnership with FIFA began at the 2006 World Cup when it became the first airline to be a sponsor of the event.

It then became an official FIFA partner up to and including the 2014 World Cup.

FIFA general secretary Jérôme Valcke said: "The goal of our tour operator program for the 2010 FIFA World Cup is to facilitate safe and effective travel to the matches for the largest possible number of fans from countries around the world, and we know that partnering with Emirates will help us achieve this.

“As a partner of ours until 2014 we are looking forward to working closely with Emirates and developing further initiatives for fans across the globe over the coming years."
