The 16th Asian Games, part of the worldwide Olympic movement and governed by the Olympic Council of Asia is planning to use an all-new Sports Presentation System – originally introduced at the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics – to cultivate a lively atmosphere for fans during next year's Games.
The announcement was made by Mr. Rao Jian, Deputy Director of Information Technology & Telecommunications Department as Games organizers outlined its sweeping IT plans.
He said that there will be two IT systems utilized by the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games, the first being the Sports Schedule Layout & Resource Planning System (Games Schedule Planning System).
Originally introduced at the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics, the Sports Presentation System will "cultivate a lively atmosphere for fans and present our wonderful sports events through the creative use of information technology. This system has been significantly enhanced from the Sydney 2000 Games for use in the 2010 Asian Games," said Mr. Rao.
GACOG's Information Technology & Telecommunications Department is responsible for the construction and establishment of more than 100 Asian Games information technology & telecommunications projects.
Mr. Rao explained that the contract for the core system of the Asian Games - AGIS - is nearly complete and pre-work beginning. The bidding for the Timing & Scoring System is on a tight schedule with a supplier to be selected this June. The Asian Games' (Main) Data Center and Command & Dispatch Center is also complete and will soon be in operation.
Mr. Rao said the initial design of the telecommunication foundation for the Main Press Center is complete and "based on INFO2010 system and CIS (Commentator Information) system, we will offer solid IT support and telecommunications during Games time".
For after-Games utilization, reusable assets created by the investment into the Asian Games will be handed over to relevant departments of the Guangzhou municipal government and fulfill elements of the "Digital Guangzhou" project which includes rural area, community and sport informationization. "Our investment into IT will not only guarantee the success of the Asian Games but the maximal efficacy for Guangzhou citizens long after the Games," added Mr. Rao.
New computers and hi-tech equipment bought especially for the 16th Asian Games will be put to use after the event to boost the city's digital development.
