The World Championship will be sponsored by bookmakers Betfred for the next four years in a £2million deal.
The agreement comes at a time when some of snooker's major events have lacked sponsorship, including this season's Wembley Masters in London.
A source within the game's governing body said: "It's fantastic news.
"We have been working really hard on trying to get new sponsors since 888.com ended their sponsorship after last season's tournament.
"The Crucible event is so popular we were always confident we would find a new sponsor."
John Higgins and Peter Ebdon will meet in today's Bank Of Beijing China Open.
Ebdon eased to a 6-1 semi-final victory over Preston potter Stuart Pettman, while Higgins battled back from 3-1 down to beat Welshman Ryan Day 6-4.
