 07/04/2009

Thomson Sport announced that it has been appointed as an official tour operator for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in South Africa.

Every four years, the world's top 32 teams contest the FIFA World Cup™ finals. The next tournament's big kick-off on 11 June 2010 in Johannesburg, South Africa, is still months away, but for fans of the world's biggest single sporting event, there is another important date on the horizon: the opportunity to purchase officially sanctioned travel packages including match tickets. Anyone who wants to attend the first-ever final phase on African soil would do well to put this memorable date in the diary. After England’s winning performance last week against the Ukraine, South Africa is the place to be.

The agreement follows a number of comparable deals signed by Thomson Sport in the past few months. Thomson will also be providing official travel packages for the UEFA Under 21’s Championships™ in Sweden and the UEFA Women’s European Championships™ in Finland in 2009. Thomson Sport is also the official englandfans overseas provider for The FA.

Nathan Wilson, managing director of Thomson Sport, said: “We are extremely proud and thrilled to be partners of the FIFA World Cup™. This is a great opportunity for Thomson who is synonymous with quality and customer service, to deliver a range of competitively priced and well-organised sports trips to these must-see events. With packages available from April 2009, we’re confident with Thomson’s experience and expert knowledge of travel and tourism in South Africa this will enhance thousand’s of footballs fans overall experience of one of the world’s greatest events”.
