Brazilian billionaire Eike Batista donated 10 million reals ($4.5 million) for Rio's 2016 Olympic Games bid on Tuesday.
Batista presented the check to Carlos Arthur Nuzman, president of the Brazilian Olympic Committee during a ceremony also attended by Rio de Janeiro state governor Sergio Cabral, Sports Minister Orlando Silva and Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes.
Batista's mining, energy, steel and oil companies are estimated to be worth nearly $20 billion.
Olympic bid organizers did not immediately say how Batista's donation will be used.
Rio was bidding against Chicago, Tokyo and Madrid for the right to host the 2016 Games, and the winner will by the International Olympic Committee on Oct. 2.
