UEFA president Michel Platini says Ukraine will not lose its right to co-host the Euro 2012 championship.
Ukraine has been running behind schedule due to a financial crisis and constant political turmoil. There has been frequent speculation that Ukraine could be stripped of the event.
But Platini, who is in Kiev to inspect preparations for the event, said Wednesday that Ukraine would still play host to the prestigious tournament.
“It is impossible that Ukraine would lose Euro 2012,” he said.
Ukraine is to co-host the event with neighboring Poland. Both ex-Communist countries face the challenge of building stadiums, hotels, roads and other infrastructure.
