A special event visa which will help process thousands of extra visitors during the Confederations Cup and 2010 World Cup will be launched on Monday.
Home Affairs Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa Nqakula said the world’s first event visa will be launched in Cairo, Egypt. The system will enable foreigners to use dedicated counters at airports in order to give them pre-clearance before they arrive. As a result, tourists can receive the pre-clearance, ensuring that they will not experience any delays when they touch down in South Africa.
The system will operate at some of the busiest airports around the world, including Heathrow, Dubai and Hong Kong. The system is expected to allay concerns about he slow pace of immigration clearances in South Africa.
