Thursday, 30th April 2009, was an important date marked on the calendars of the national federations of China, Italy and Spain, the three countries which are bidding to host the 2014 edition of FIBA’s premier championship.
Thursday, the months of detailed and thorough planning and dedicated work by the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), the Italian Basketball Federation (FIP) and the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) have paid off. The three candidatures for the 2014 FIBA World Championship have presented their final bid documents to FIBA Secretary General and IOC member Patrick Baumann.
Present in Geneva were Jesús Bueno, Executive Director and Secretary General of FEB, and Massimo Cilli, Executive Vice-President of the Italian candidature. The final bid files of the Chinese candidature have also reached the FIBA Secretariat in due time and form.
With the presentation of the three final candidature files, the bidding process for the 2014 FIBA World Championship, which started in January 2008, approaches its final stage.
China, Italy and Spain still have little over three weeks ahead of them to continue to pursue their dream to organize the world’s most important basketball event in 2014. The three candidatures, along with representatives from the entire international basketball family, will be together in Geneva, Switzerland, on 23rd May 2009 when the FIBA Central Board decides the host of the 2014 World Championship for Men.
