Last weekend a group of representatives from major European ski countries decided to recreate a European Ski Association (Euroski) to better defend their interests.
Members of Swiss, French, Italian and Austrian Federations decided to reactivate the association and to name Austrian Peter Schroeksnadel as its newest chairman.
It is expected that more nations such as Germany will be joining the group in the near future to discuss new ways to better promote ski racing in the current difficult economical situation.
They also aim to get more benefit from the marketing and TV rights from companies representing the World Cup organizers and create a stronger lobby in order to get more races in the alpine countries.
Members of the four founding countries say that Euroski should not be considered a concurrent to the International Ski Federation (FIS), which controls international ski racing, but more as a group of common interests.
Another meeting of Euroski is planned in Munich later this month as well as a press conference in Zurich where the goals and plans of the association should be presented to the media.
