IEC in Sports, the Stockholm based international media agency has signed an exclusive distribution agreement to represent the South African National Team in football in their preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
With less than 400 days to go to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, many of the world’s top national teams are planning trips to South Africa to play “Bafana Bafana”, which is the team name for the South African National side, in order to gain experience playing on the grounds which will be used for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The contract includes all of the South African National Team’s matches played in South Africa over a two year period and all media and all markets world-wide.
The agreement also includes two tours of the Vodacom Challenge football series, the highly respected annual South African pre-season tournament which hosted Manchester United last year. The Vodacom Challenge always invites a top European club team to fight for the honourable trophy and in 2009 the high spending Manchester City is confirmed to take advantage of the opportunity. Manchester City is expected to showcase their highly anticipated summer signings for the first time in the Vodacom Challenge. A total of 4 matches will be played from the 18th to the 25th of July.
“The South African home internationals and the Vodacom Challenge will be excellent opportunities to get a taste of the excitement expected when the 2010 FIFA World Cup kicks off in South Africa. We expect widespread global interest from broadcasters to follow the teams and their preparations on the grounds of the upcoming FIFA World Cup” said Jonas Persson, CEO of IEC in Sports.
