South Africa’s impressive preparations for the 2010 World Cup could help the SA Rugby Union (Saru) secure the rights to host the 2015 or 2019 Rugby World Cup tournament.
South Africa which hosted – and won – the event in 1995 will present its bid to the International Rugby Board Council in Dublin today.
Bid Committee chairman Mark Alexander says the strength of the Saru bid is the government financial guarantee, infrastructure and stadia already in place and of world class standard for the 2010 World Cup.
Saru President Oregon Hoskins added that government has been supportive and has provided the financial guarantee to allow the union to put together a compelling case. SA previously bid for the 2011 World Cup which was awarded to New Zealand.
