The Toronto Star reports Toronto's 2015 Pan Am bid has been delayed due to the swine flu. The bid book, which outlines specific plans for the 2015 Pan American Games including venues, transportation, and housing details, was to be hand-delivered in Mexico to Mario Vazquez Rana, president of the Pan American Sports Organization, in late April.
Bid chairman David Peterson, and Canadian Olympic Committee president and CEO Michael Chambers, cancelled their trip to Mexico City when the April 30 bid deadline was put off and Mexico suspended public events.
Peterson said no date has been set for them to make a formal presentation to Vazquez Rana, but the bid book is ready. It will also go to Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty and Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
Toronto is bidding against Bogota, Colombia, and Lima, Peru. The 42-member Pan American Sports Organization is expected to elect a host city in November.
