Bogota's bid committee for the 2015 Pan American Games will be presenting its bid plan to the members of the South American Sports Organization (Odesur) May 21 to 24 in Montevideo.
More than 5,500 athletes from 42 nations are expected to compete in the 2015 Pan American Games.
Bogota plans to spend $250 million on sports facilities if it wins the 2015 bid, reports the Associated Press.
Bogota Mayor Samuel Moreno said at a news conference last week that many of the facilities were already in place, but several new facilities would have to be built, including stadiums for tennis, track and field and an Athletes village.
Moreno said under Bogota's plan no venue would be separated by more than six kilometres. He also said that Colombia's location on the northwest tip of South America made it a more central location than either Toronto or Lima, the other two cities bidding for the 2015 Pan Ams.
Moreno said, "Toronto also has excellent infrastructure - they have an advantage on us in some aspects. But some venues there are 30 kilometres apart".
He acknowledged that Bogota's altitude of 2,650 metres was a disadvantage.
