Stadium safety: FIFA issues new warnings 27/05/2009 |

FIFA has warned Malawi and Kenya to improve their stadium safety measures ahead of next month’s 2010 World Cup qualifiers. Kenyan football authorities were yesterday ordered to switch venues for the next 2010 qualifier after failing to meet safety standards.
The fixture against Mozambique will now be played at the 60 000-capacity Moi International Sports Center in Nairobi. And Malawi must limit the crowd to 25 000 inside the 50 000-capacity Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre for the fixture against Burkina Faso.
Global football’s governing body has clamped down on following the deaths of 19 fans died in a stampede at a 2010 qualifier in Abidjan in March. Four official were this weekend charged over the tragedy. FIFA is still investigating the incident.
