Michael Phelps signed his first endorsement agreement since being photographed smoking a bong at a college party.
H2O Audio, a San Diego-based maker of waterproof headphones and accessories, will use the swimmer’s picture on packaging, advertisements and retail displays.
“Music has always been a huge part of my life and my training,” Phelps said in a statement. “Their line of waterproof headphones and accessories will help swimmers of all ages and skill levels, as well as other athletes, to incorporate music as part of their time in and around the water.”
Phelps, who won a single-Games record eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics last year, completed a three-month ban in May after photographs showing him inhaling from a bong appeared in a U.K. newspaper.
Swimmer Natalie Coughlin and surfer Laird Hamilton also are under contract with H2O Audio.
“Our relationship with Michael will undoubtedly benefit our technology, product performance and design,” H2O Audio Chief Executive Officer Kristian Rauhala said.
The Kellogg Co. decided against renewing its contract with record 14-time Olympic gold medalist Phelps after the picture was published in February.
