Associative marketing and sponsorship agency brandRapport has been appointed to provide PR and event activation services for golf’s inaugural Asian Amateur Championship, to be played in China later this year.
The event, which will feature 120 top amateur golfers from around the region, is supported by two of the biggest names in world sport – The R&A;, custodians of the (British) Open Championship, and the Masters Tournament.
It will be played under the auspices of the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC), the regional umbrella body for amateur golf, at Mission Hills’ Jack Nicklaus-designed World Cup Course from October 29-November 1.
In a significant boost to the growth of the Asian game, the winner will receive an invitation to compete in the Masters, plus a spot along with the runner-up in International Final Qualifying for the Open Championship – priceless opportunities for amateur golfers that are sure to bolster the sport throughout the region.
Colin Phillips, Honorary Secretary of the APGC, said: “brandRapport has extensive experience with major sporting events in Asia Pacific and are ideally placed to assist us with such an important new initiative. We look forward to working with them on the first Asian Amateur Championship.”
Added Dan Parr, Senior Account Director, brandRapport Asia Pacific: “Golf has boomed as a marketing platform in Asia in the last decade, but the Asian Amateur Championship is something unique. Offering players from around the region the chance to qualify for two of the most important championships in world sport will be an opportunity to show how major organisations can help a sport grow at the grass roots level.”
brandRapport handles media and sponsor activation for a variety of events and sponsors throughout Asia Pacific, with current projects in Japan, Hong Kong, Macau and China. In addition to being involved with a number of significant golf tournaments, the company has also recently worked on major international rugby, marathon, triathlon and sailing events.
