Sochi 2014 Vice-President for Marketing, Commercial Operations and Communications, Igor Stolyarov, today showcased the plans that will make Russia’s first Winter Games a memorable experience for international media, at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Press Commission meeting in London.

Attendees were informed that the pre-design stage of the innovative Sochi 2014 Main Media Centre (MMC) has been completed, and the location for the Mountain Media Sub-Center (MMSC) approved. Individual competition venues will also have dedicated, state-of-the-art media facilities (Venue Media Centers), and the review stages for these has also now been concluded. Additionally, accommodation and transport plans for media attending Sochi 2014 are being developed to ensure the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games are as media-friendly as they are athlete-friendly.

The structure of Sochi 2014’s media operations team was also covered by Mr Stolyarov, who revealed that both a Director of Press Operations and a Head of Main Press Center will be recruited prior to the start of the Vancouver 2010 Games. The final media services team will also include heads of Venue Press Services, Photo Services, Olympic News Services, Media Support, as well as a Paralympic Press Operations Manager.

Continuing the look ahead, attendees were taken through Sochi 2014’s plans to continue its close collaboration with venue, accommodation, transport and all other Games-related developers to ensure a world-class experience for media. Representatives from the Organizing Committee will also undertake secondments at Vancouver 2010, and participate in its Observers’ Programs.

Sochi 2014 President and CEO, Dmitry Chernyshenko, said:

“The most compact Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games plan ever, which will see travel times of less than 40 minutes between the coastal and mountain venue clusters, will bring maximum convenience to visiting media and help them to communicate the stories of Sochi 2014.

“Both venue clusters are just a few kilometers from the athletes villages, and state-of-the-art press and broadcast facilities will be within easy reach wherever a journalist is. Sochi 2014 is fully on track to be as unique an experience for attending media as it will be for competitors, supporters and officials.”
