HISTORY will be made at Nurburgring when the German Grand Prix becomes the first ever Formula One event to become completely cashless this weekend.

An estimated 300,000 visitors to the circuit during the three days of the event will be utilizing RFID cashless payment technology provided by German market leaders payment solution Corp.

Visitors will use a special Nurburgring ring°card to make all their purchases inside the stadium – including all food and beverages.

A team of over 160 staff will be on hand to administer and top-up the special cards, which will be available to use at over 250 points of sale inside the stadium.

Heinz-Peter Strömsdörfer, VP Marketing and Operations at payment solution, said: “This is an historic day for cashless payment technology in general and for payment solution in particular.

“It will undoubtedly be one of the biggest-ever sporting events to ever go cashless and clearly demonstrates to the whole sports world about the potential and capability of RFID technology.

“We recently signed a long-term relationship with the owners of the Nurburgring to operate cashless technology at the venue and this weekend’s Grand Prix is going to be one of the highlights of our partnership so far.

"Having already installed cashless systems into England with the Ricoh Arena in Coventry, the AFG Arena in Switzerland and the Donbass Arena in the Ukraine we are delighted to now be creating a small slice of history in Formula One.”

payment solution have introduced cashless payment technology into German World Cup venues Cologne (RheinEnergie-Stadion), Frankfurt (Commerzbank-Arena) and Kaiserslautern (Fritz Walter-Stadion), as well in the Rhein-Neckar-Arena, the new home of Bundesliga club Hoffenheim.
