Fully renovated basketball arena ready for Asian Games 22/07/2009 |

The 16th Asian Games announced that the 13,000 seat Guangzhou Gymnasium - the site for Asian Games Basketball - has been fully renovated and delivered to Games' organisers as well as the venues for the Triathlon and Marathon.
The Asian Games is the second largest sporting event in the world after the Olympic Games, comprising one half of the world's population.
By the end of June 2009, more than $850 million of more than $1.7 billion has been invested in the all-new Asian Games Town which includes all new facilities such as the International Broadcast Centre and Main Press centre for the Games. During the 16th Asian Games registered personnel and honored guests from 45 countries and regions will find accommodations at the Asian Games Town including more than 14,000 athletes and accompanying officials and 10,000 news media.
The overall progress of the Asian Games Town project is now two months ahead of schedule.
Construction of more than 75 percent of all Asian Games venues are underway and all of them will be completed and ready for use by March 2010.
There will be 72 venues for the Asian Games, including 53 competition venues and 19 training venues.
Nearly 80 percent of all Asian Games' venues in Guangzhou will be accessible by metro.
Venues such as the Tianhe Sports Centre and Guangzhou Velodrome are under construction with expansion and renovation of 41 venues currently underway.
