General Motors Co. will end its 51- year sponsorship of the U.S. PGA Tour’s Buick Open, Golfweek magazine reported on its Web site.
The final Buick Open will be played July 30 to Aug. 2 in Grand Blanc, Michigan, Golfweek said. The PGA Tour is planning to announce a new title sponsor and site for the tourney the day after it ends, the magazine said.
Tom Pernice Jr., a member of the tour’s Player Advisory Council, told Golfweek that next week’s tournament would be the last, but said he couldn’t disclose Buick’s replacement.
GM exited from bankruptcy on July 10 after receiving U.S. financial aid. The automaker, which ended a nine-year sponsorship with top-ranked Tiger Woods last year, also sponsors the Buick Invitational tournament in San Diego.
