The Pan American Sports Organization's (PASO) five-member Evaluation Commission will be in Toronto August 30 and 31 to meet with Toronto 2015 and visit the proposed Games venues and facilities.
Jagoda Pike, President and COO of Toronto's 2015 Pan American bid committee said, "the visit is an ideal opportunity to showcase the many qualities of our bid and to show PASO that Toronto is the ideal city to host the 2015 Pan-Parapan American Games. We will ensure that PASO members leave knowing that we can stage an exceptional Games".
While in Toronto the Evaluation Commission will assess key elements of the bid and report back to PASO, which manages the Games and whose member nations vote to award hosting rights, said a press release. The vote is expected in early November.
The Evaluation Commission is also visiting Toronto 2015 competitors Lima, Peru and Bogota, Colombia immediately ahead of the Toronto visit.
Toronto 2015 says it is now working on finalizing the two-day itinerary to meet PASO requirements, including introducing the evaluations to people and organizations critical to the Games, and to highlight important elements related to Games operations.
Meanwhile Toronto 2015 is participating in Caribbean Pride this weekend with its own float in the Caribana parade Saturday marshalled by the Margarett Best, Ontario Minister of Health Promotion.
Best said, "Toronto comes alive with the signs and sounds of Caribbean Carnival this weekend. We look forward to seeing Toronto come alive with Pan-Parapan American celebration with our Caribbean family here in Toronto in 2015".
"Caribana is a celebration Toronto looks forward to each year", said David Peterson, Chair of Toronto 2015. "The Toronto Pan Am bid salutes the Caribbean community and looks forward to hosting all Pan American nations in 2015 should Toronto have the honour of hosting the Games".
More than a million people were expected to attend the Caribana Parade Saturday.
