Sir Ian Johnston has been appointed as the London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) Director of Security and Resilience. He will lead on security at the venues during the Games.
Sir Ian will work closely with all key organisations tasked with making the Games secure, including the Home Office and the Olympic Security Directorate. He will also contribute to the Government’s Olympic security strategy.
He will also make sure all plans are integrated with departments across LOCOG, including workforce, accreditation, transport, and command and control.
At Games-time he will have responsibility for overseeing security including the perimeter of venues, field of play, transport and security for the Olympic Village.
Sir Ian has had a distinguished 44 year career in the police service and is about to complete an eight year term as Chief Constable of British Transport Police.
He said: 'The London 2012 Games are a massive opportunity to showcase London and the UK. Security is a vital part of ensuring we host a spectacular and successful event and I am very much looking forward to playing my part in meeting that challenge.'
