The Canadian Olympic Committee isn't rushing to bid for the 2018 Winter Olympics. But chief executive Chris Rudge wouldn't rule out seeking another Winter Games after Vancouver 2010.
"While we have not made any kind of specific commitments, we certainly are looking at what the next Winter Games might be," Rudge told 24 hours. "We probably recognize 2018 might be a bit premature, only two Games after Vancouver... 2022 might be realistic."
The International Olympic Committee opened 2018 bidding on Friday with Oct. 15 as the application deadline for national Olympic committees. The 2018 host city will be elected at the 123rd IOC session in Durban, South Africa July 6, 2011.
Before he was voted COC president-elect, Marcel Aubut said Quebec City should bid for the 2018 or 2022 Winter Games. Vancouver beat Quebec City and Calgary in a 1998 COC vote to be Canada's 2010 bid city.
"There's not a more beautiful environment in the world for a Winter Olympics than Quebec City," Rudge said.
On Thursday, Munich's 2018 bid committee named two-time Olympic gold medal figure skater Katarina Witt its head. The German city hosted the 1972 Summer Games. Two-time loser PyeongChang, South Korea and Annecy, France are also seeking the 2018 Games.
